A vegetarian diet gives all the nutrients required to stay healthy and strong
More and more people around the world are vegetarians. A vegetarian is one who eats no animal products. Many reasons can be found for vegetarians, such as health, religion, economy, ethics and environment. Therefore, I agree that a vegetarian diet gives all the nutrients required to stay healthy and strong.
A major benefit of a vegetarian is healthy. On one hand, a vegetarian diet supplies all the nutrients. There is a popular misconception that a vegetarian diet is unhealthy due to lack of proteins. In fact, plant food such as nuts, seeds and soy products are high in protein. Vegetarians eat them daily to ensure adequate nutrient intake. In addition, vegetables contain high a level of vitamins. For example, vitamin B12, which is important for production of red bloods cells, can be found in dairy products and eggs. Most vegetables have useful amounts of minerals. Fruits juices and soymilk are rich in calcium, which is needed for strong bones and teeth. Also, most vegetables not only have lots of fibre but also contain 75-95 per cent water. Some vegetables are also rich in antioxidants and complex carbohydrates. Most vegetables are low in kilojoules, especially cabbage and cucumber. Furthermore, vegetarians are less susceptible to daily diseases and thus have a longer life expectancy. Medical research has already proved that meat eaters suffer more frequently form various types of food poisoning that non-meat eaters. Studies confirm that vegetarians tend to be thinner than meat eaters. Vegetarians have lower rates of illness. To illustrate, obesity is currently the most common chronic disease in the United States.
The study of meat eaters has been shown to have negative effects on our bodies. Meat eating causes a host of serious health conditions. First, the habit of eating meat endangers blood circulation. Medical research findings reveal that those who eat meat increase the risk of heart disease problems. Second, animal foods are higher in fat than most plant foods. Plants do not contain cholesterol. Third, meat is largely deficient in vitamins while plant food can provide various vitamins, especially vitamins A. Next, research shows that the average American gets five times the amount of protein needed. It is a common medical fact that excess protein is dangerous. It creates a host of long-term health problems. Finally, there are over 20,000 different drugs including growth hormones and other veterinary drugs that are given to livestock. What’s more, there are a lot of bacteria and viruses that are common to animals. When meat is frozen, cold temperatures do not kill all species of bacteria.
A vegetarian diet saves the lives of animals and creates fewer demands on the environment. Vegetarians love animals as they love people. Some people eat rare animals just for curiosity. It takes 78 calories of fossil fuel to produce 1 calorie of beef protein; 35 calories for 1 calorie of pork; but just 1 calorie of fossil fuel for 1 calorie of soybeans. Being a vegetarian can conserve non-renewable sources of energy. Forest in Brazil is destroyed daily to create more space to raise livestock. Forest can improve the quality of air. Also, it can save water.
Other reasons for being a vegetarian are ethics and religion. Over 1.3 billion human beings could be fed each year from the grain and soybeans that go to livestock in the United States. That means that it could have fed more than 1 billion people while American uses the grain and soybeans to feed the animals. A vegetarian can not only save the animals’ lives but also save people! Moslems does not eat pork and Indian Buddhists do not eat beef for religions reasons.
Being a vegetarian saves money. Because vegetables are cheaper than meat, but its nutrition is not lower than meat. Vegetarian foods cost less than meat foods. In addition, plant foods last longer than animal foods. Vegetarians spend less money on food but have
the nutrients the body needs.
To sum up, there are an estimated about 5.7 million adult vegetarians in the Unite State who are vegetarians. Fist, being a vegetarian’s is healthy. Second, meat foods are danger and tend to induce disease. Third, vegetarian save both animals and people, especially the poor. Last but not least, it cost vegetarians less money. Certainly a balanced vegetarian diet will be much healthier than the average meat eaters’ diet.
